Plagron Cocos Slab 12 Liters: what’s behind the “plug-and-play” slab?

The Plagron Cocos Slab is an unfertilized coco substrate in slab form that can be used straight away: lay it out, insert the plant, and get started. Because the slab is rinsed and fully buffered, you begin with a particularly clean and controllable coco medium – without pre-mixed nutrients that would “dictate” your feeding schedule.

Ready to use immediately: lay out the slab, insert the plant

The slab is pre-shaped to encourage roots to develop as evenly as possible. Conveniently, drainage holes are already in place, so there’s no need for cutting or adjustments. This makes it especially suitable for coco setups where clean handling and reliable drainage are important.

Buffered multiple times: clean coco for stable nutrient uptake

Plagron rinses and buffers the slab in several steps to remove unwanted salts. The result is a very low starting EC, which helps plants absorb nutrients more evenly. According to the manufacturer, the low initial EC can also help prevent calcium deficiency, as fewer “interfering salts” are present.

Important in practice: because the substrate is not pre-fertilized, you supply nutrients yourself from the very beginning – exactly according to the needs of your plants (e.g. vegetables, herbs, ornamental plants) and your specific setup.

Unfertilized: full control over your feeding schedule

You can combine the Cocos Slab with all types of liquid fertilizers. If you prefer to stay within the Plagron range, Cocos A&B is the suitable base fertilizer for coco substrates.

Practical notes on reuse

Depending on water quality and usage, the slab can be used for at least six months according to the manufacturer. However, if you experienced significant issues during use (e.g. noticeable salt residues or nutrient excess), replacing the slab is usually the safer option.
