Innovative and sustainable growing media made from rockwool

The Grodan company from the Netherlands is the world's leading supplier of growing media made of rockwool. Grodan has been producing rockwool cubes since 1969 and now supplies growers in more than 60 countries. The Grodan assortment ranges from small rockwool cubes (Grodan Miniblocks) to the popular Delta grow sheets and grow mats. All growing solutions are based on the principle of precision growing developed by Grodan. Tailor-made advice combined with innovative tools enable the sustainable production of healthy, safe and good-tasting agricultural products.

Water-retaining rockwool, 100% germ-free

Grodan's rock wool is extracted from Swedish basalt in a special process. This is melted at high temperatures and enriched with non-toxic resins. In this way, a new, unique material is created with excellent, hydrophilic properties.
The flowers are 100% germ-free and can be easily repotted into a wide variety of media, be it soil, coco or hydroponic systems.

Perfectly suitable for hydroponic systems

The water-friendly rock wool from Grodan is particularly suitable for further use in hydroponic systems. The cubes consist of 90% air and are therefore extremely light. When filled with water they reach a multiple of their own weight, but even when wet they still achieve a very good aeration of the root system. The Grodan product range is particularly suitable for drip irrigation systems, but requires good drainage. However, we do not recommend the use of Grodan rockwool in recirculating systems.

Stone wool naturally has a relatively high pH value of approx. 8.5. Therefore, before using Grodan stone wool, it is essential to soak the cubes in a pH-neutral solution. A precise pH-measuring device should be part of the basic equipment for every grow.

The choice of rockwool leaves largely determines the irrigation strategy, which ultimately results in the type of plant required.
