Aluminum Flex Ducting – Aludec, Combidec, Phonic Trap & Sonodec compared

For intake and exhaust air in grow tents and technical rooms, we offer four types of ducting, each with its own strengths. All versions are available in common diameters (100, 125, 150/160, 200, 250 mm) and various lengths, and can be sealed airtight with hose clamps and aluminum tape.

Quick overview: which duct for which use?

• Aludec – the classic, uninsulated aluminum flex duct. Very flexible, lightweight, and inexpensive for short to medium runs.
• Combidec – aluminum inner layer with a robust black outer jacket. Extra tear-resistant, lightproof, and easy to clean – ideal where the duct is visible or exposed to wear.
• Phonic Trap – acoustically insulated duct with a sound-absorbing middle layer. Greatly reduces airflow noise compared to uninsulated ducts.
• Sonodec – thermal and acoustic insulated duct with aluminum outer layer. Reduces noise and helps prevent condensation on cold runs.

Aludec – features & applications

• Construction: Multi-layer aluminum foil with wire spiral, no insulation.
• Strengths: Maximum flexibility, lightweight, affordable.
• Best for: Short distances, tight bends, temporary setups, simple connections between filter, fan, and flange.

Combidec – features & applications

• Construction: Aluminum inner lining with durable black outer jacket.
• Strengths: Very robust, tear-resistant, fully lightproof, wipeable surface.
• Best for: Visible ducting, areas with contact or dust, long-term installations.

Phonic Trap – features & applications

• Construction: Inner duct with acoustic insulation and protective outer layer.
• Strengths: Excellent noise reduction, smoother airflow.
• Best for: Quiet ventilation in living spaces, night operation, long duct runs where sound reduction is a priority.

Sonodec – features & applications

• Construction: Inner duct with thermal/acoustic insulation and aluminum outer layer.
• Strengths: Good sound reduction, condensation protection on cold sections.
• Best for: Attics, basements, cold runs to outside vents, and setups requiring extra condensation control.

Diameters, lengths & planning

• Choose diameter: 100 mm for small setups, 125–160 mm for medium, 200 mm+ for high airflow. Larger diameters mean less pressure loss and noise.
• Lengths: Supplied compressed, ducts reach full length (e.g. 5–10 m) only when extended.
• Bend radius: Keep bends as wide as possible (at least duct diameter) – sharp 90° bends reduce airflow significantly.

Installation tips

• Slide duct 25–50 mm over fittings, secure with hose clamps, and seal joints with aluminum tape.
• Install ducts tension-free and support them regularly. For insulated ducts (Phonic Trap/Sonodec), allow a slight slope to drain condensation.
• For ultra-quiet operation, add a silencer and keep duct runs as short as possible.
