250 W high-pressure sodium lamp for flowering and fruit development
The Osram Plantastar 250W is a high-pressure sodium lamp developed for professional horticultural and greenhouse lighting. Its photosynthesis-oriented spectrum has a colour temperature of 2,000 K and is particularly suited to crops during flowering and fruit development. With a nominal output of 250 W, 33,000 lm luminous flux and a photon flux of 420 µmol/s, it provides substantial plant lighting output in the widely used E40 format.
Spectrum developed for horticultural lighting
Plantastar lamps are specifically designed for assimilation lighting. The warm yellow-red spectrum is suited to applications where flowering and fruit production are the primary focus. The manufacturer also specifies that more than 90% of the photon flux remains after 12,000 operating hours. This makes the lamp suitable for regularly operated indoor and greenhouse lighting installations. Other suitable lamps can be found in the HPS lighting and ballast range.
33,000 lumens from a 250 W lamp
The 250 W version produces a luminous flux of 33,000 lm with a luminous efficacy of 122 lm/W. Its E40 base fits luminaires and reflectors designed for this type of discharge lamp. The permitted burning position is unrestricted, allowing the lamp to be positioned according to the design of the lighting fixture.
Suitable ballast and ignitor required
As a high-pressure discharge lamp, the Plantastar must not be connected directly to the mains supply. It requires suitable conventional control gear and an ignitor matched to the electrical requirements of the 250 W lamp. Appropriate components are available in the ballasts for horticultural discharge lamps section. According to the current manufacturer specifications, this version is not dimmable.
