NuMex Suave Orange Chilli Seeds for mild Habanero character

NuMex Suave Orange Chilli Seeds, 10 pcs. are suited to growers who enjoy the distinctive character of Habanero chillies but want a considerably milder variety. NuMex Suave Orange belongs to the Capsicum chinense species and is rated at approximately 500–1,000 Scoville by the seed supplier. It therefore adds a gently pungent, aromatic option to a collection of chilli seeds for home growing.

Mild Capsicum chinense with Habanero character

NuMex Suave Orange was developed at New Mexico State University and released in 2004 as a mild Capsicum chinense cultivar. Its defining feature is the combination of the characteristic aroma associated with Habanero-type chillies and a much gentler level of heat. The ripe fruits can be used in a wide range of dishes, including salsas, stuffed peppers and fresh preparations, or simply as a mild seasoning chilli.

Warm conditions for propagation

Sowing is recommended from January to April, with an ideal germination temperature of 22–28 °C. For early sowing, propagators for seeds and seedlings can help maintain more consistent warmth and moisture around the seeds. Once germinated, the young plants need a bright position. When potting on, use an airy, nutrient-rich growing soil and avoid waterlogging.

Bushy plants with orange-ripening fruits

The plants develop a bushy growth habit and can reach approximately 120 cm in height. Fruits are around 5 cm long and 4 cm wide, changing from green to orange as they mature. Ripening takes approximately 90–100 days. Growing the plants in suitable plant pots also makes it easier to move them to a protected position when outdoor temperatures begin to fall.
