AutoPot AQUAbox Spyder

The AutoPot AQUAbox Spyder is a compact yet highly efficient solution for automatic irrigation in (raised) beds and XXL containers. At the center of the box sits the AQUAvalve5, which supplies water or nutrient solution from an external tank as needed. The moisture is then distributed evenly throughout the root zone via multiple capillary strips – arranged in a star shape around the box.

Irrigation Without Power: Gravity + AQUAvalve5

The system operates completely without electronics: a slightly elevated tank feeds the AQUAbox by gravity. The AQUAvalve5 automatically regulates the supply. Typical for AutoPot systems, refilling only occurs when the water level has dropped – creating natural wet/dry cycles instead of constant waterlogging.

Using Capillary Strips Smartly: Start Phase vs. “Heavy Feeders”

The included capillary mat (6 m × 15 mm) is cut into individual strips and placed into the growing medium for the Spyder. Practical tip: for many crops, it’s sufficient to use only half of the strips during the initial phase. The remaining strips can be “parked” and activated later – for example with heavy-feeding plants like tomatoes or squash.

Setup Tips for Maximum Evenness

• Position the tank higher (minimum height approx. 15 cm above the AQUAbox).
• Lay the capillary strips with a slight downward slope from the center outward (supports solution flow).
• Level the AQUAbox precisely using the integrated circular spirit level.
• Keep the lid closed and do not cover the AQUAbox with soil – it should remain “free” above soil level.
• During prolonged rainfall, simply shut off the system using the inline tap or tank tap.

Low Maintenance & Suitable for Everyday Outdoor Use

Thanks to the absence of pumps or electronics, the AQUAbox Spyder is very reliable in operation. For long-term performance, we recommend (as with all irrigation systems) using a clean nutrient solution, appropriate filtration, and occasionally flushing the lines. Additionally, you should replace the capillary strips seasonally if you want consistently even water distribution over time.
