Germination and growing:
The seeds of this plant require a temperature of 22 - 28° for germination. Until germination, the seeds should always be kept slightly moist and only lightly pressed into the substrate. Before germination, place the seeds in the refrigerator for approx. 2-4 weeks (artificial winter). It is generally helpful to use a heated mini-greenhouse to increase the germination rate and to provide the seedlings with a favourable climate for their first growth phase. After about 4 to 6 weeks, you should be able to spot the first seedlings.
Rare insect catchers from the USA
These two pitcher plant species are mainly found in the USA, where they grow mainly in bogs. To compensate for the sometimes very poor soil, they catch insects in their tube-like leaves and digest them. The purple pitcher plant needs the help of bacteria from rainwater to do this, as it produces relatively few enzymes. You should keep them in a sunny location, preferably with high humidity. Sarracenia prefers rather acidic soils and a lot of moisture. When watering, make sure the water is very low in lime, preferably rainwater. Already in spring, tubular plants form terminal flowers on long stems, when these have faded, the plants begin to form new tubular traps.
