Firebud Red Chillies develop beautiful pods that stand upwards in bunches. The rare arrangement of the fruits, the interesting colouring of green, yellow, orange and red and the compact growth make this variety well suited as a decorative pot plant on a sunny windowsill. The taste also leaves nothing to be desired and you can prepare delicious dips and salsas with the pods, which can be enjoyed by most people due to the milder heat. These chillies also dry well, so you can use them later in cooking or offer them as chilli powder on the food table.
Germination and growing
To get this variety to germinate, you should provide them with an environment with a temperature between 20 and 28 °C. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chilli plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable spot where they will get at least 6-8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors in early autumn on days with temperatures below 12 °C - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
