AutoPot AQUAbox Straight
With the AutoPot AQUAbox Straight, you can evenly irrigate narrow raised beds, garden beds, planters, or even grow bags – without electricity, without a pump, and without a timer. The system is placed directly in the substrate and supplies water (and, if required, nutrient solution) on demand via a capillary mat laid in the soil.
Power-Free Gravity Irrigation – with AQUAvalve5
The AQUAbox only requires an external water tank/reservoir. Water flows to the AQUAbox by gravity, where the AQUAvalve5 (dual-float valve) automatically regulates the supply: it only дозes water when it is actually needed. This makes irrigation completely hands-off and especially suitable for outdoor use, weekend gardens, or holiday periods.
Natural Wet/Dry Cycles for a Healthy Root Environment
The AQUAvalve5 works on the “flood & drain” principle: it fills the area to a defined level and then allows it to dry out completely before refilling. This creates alternating wet and dry phases – helping to prevent waterlogging and promoting a well-aerated substrate.
The capillary mat draws water from the AQUAbox and distributes it underground along the mat. With a length of 120 cm and a width of 4.5 cm, the AQUAbox Straight is ideal for long, narrow beds, row planting, planters, and large containers.
Cover More Area – Multiple AQUAboxes on One Tank
If you want to irrigate larger areas, multiple AQUAboxes can be connected to a single shared reservoir. A 9 mm T-connector is already included in the set, making system expansion simple.
Practical Tips for Installation & Operation
- Reservoir position: Place the tank approx. 15 cm higher than the AQUAbox to ensure reliable gravity flow.
- Laying the capillary mat: For best results, lay the mat strips with a slight downward slope away from the AQUAbox housing.
- Do not bury the lid: The lid should sit above the final soil level and remain closed (protects against soil washing in during heavy rain).
- Water first, then plant: After installation, water the bed thoroughly from above once, allow it to drain, then plant and water again.
- During prolonged rainfall: Temporarily shut off the water supply (via inline tap or tank tap).
- Maintenance: Flush the lines at the end of the season; clean the valve with warm soapy water if needed. Limescale deposits at the valve outlet can be gently loosened (do not use drills or sharp tools).
Also Suitable for Liquid Organic Nutrients (AQUAvalve5 / 9 mm)
Thanks to the larger passages of the AQUAvalve5 and the 9 mm system, higher flow rates are possible, reducing the risk of deposits and blockages. According to AutoPot, this allows – unlike older 6 mm systems – the use of liquid organic additives/nutrients via the tank and tubing. As always: work cleanly, use filtration, and check the system regularly.
