Thai Dragon chillies originate from Southeast Asia and are one of the most commonly used chillies in local cuisine there. The compact plants are very robust and bear many fruits. In a pot and in a sunny spot, the Thai Dragon with its strong green and red pods is also well suited as a decoration. In the countries of origin, the aromatic fruits are sometimes used green in curries, etc. When red and ripe, the thin-skinned pods are very suitable for pickling or drying. Their intense spiciness lasts for a while after consumption, so you should better prepare food guests for the upcoming Thai dragon experience.

Germination and growing

To get this variety to germinate, you should offer them an environment with a temperature between 22 and 28 °C. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chilli plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable spot where they will get at least 6-8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors in early autumn on days with temperatures below 12 °C - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
