Germination and growing:

The seeds of this plant need temperatures between 15 and 20° to germinate. Until germination, the seeds should always be kept slightly moist, regardless of whether you pre-germinate them or germinate them directly in or on potting soil. It is generally helpful to use a heated mini-greenhouse to increase the germination rate and to provide the seedlings with a favourable climate for their first growth phase. After about 3 to 12 days you should be able to spot the first seedlings.

A particularly healthy variety - Uchiki Kuri

This Hokkaido variety was bred in Japan in the early 1930s. Individual fruits can weigh up to 2 kg, and on average they reach a weight of around 1.5 kg. The deep red flesh tastes particularly nutty and the thin skin becomes so soft during cooking that you do not need to remove it. The Japan Hokkaido contains an above-average amount of carotene and plenty of vitamin C - so it is well suited for preparing particularly healthy dishes. If this pumpkin grows in a sunny spot with humus-rich soil, you can look forward to several delicious fruits in autumn.
