Germination and Cultivation:

The seeds of this plant require temperatures between 20 and 25° for germination. Until germination, the seeds should always be kept slightly moist. Pre-germination in cellulose and under light is ideal here, as the goji berry is a light germinator. It is generally helpful to use a heated mini-greenhouse to increase the germination rate and to provide the seedlings with a favourable climate for their first growth phase. After about 2 to 6 weeks you should be able to spot the first seedlings.

Rapid Growth, Fruits Rich in Vitamins and Enormously Hardy

The goji berry is somehow an all-rounder. Although it requires a sunny location (which also improves the ripening of the berries), it does not have any great demands as far as the soil is concerned. If you plant it in the garden instead of in pots, however, you should put rhizome barriers in the soil to prevent it from spreading unchecked. The goji berry is also known as chinese boxthorn and grows almost faster than you can see! Under ideal conditions, this plant can grow almost a meter a year, and to help it keep its shape, it is best to use climbing aids. It is best to shorten water shoots by 2/3 of their length in spring to encourage the formation of side shoots. In June, lots of purple flowers appear, followed by bright red berries in August. These berries are known for their particularly high vitamin content and are now considered a superfood - they are definitely healthy! You can expect a first harvest in about the third season. And since this robust plant is frost-resistant to well over minus twenty degrees, you don't need to worry about it even in the harshest winter.
