Germination and Growing:
The seeds of this plant need temperatures between 20 and 25° to germinate. Until germination, the seeds should always be kept slightly moist, regardless of whether you pre-germinate them or germinate the seeds directly in or on growing soil. It is generally helpful to use a heated mini-greenhouse to increase the germination rate and to provide the seedlings with a favourable climate for their first growth phase. After about 3 to 8 weeks you should see the first seedlings. After another 4 weeks you can repot the young plants.
Tropical Extravagance - The Black Bat Flower
With its unusual dark purple flower, somewhat reminiscent of a cute little bat and bearing strikingly long filaments, the bat flower is a real eye-catcher. It flowers between June and August and its flowers last unusually long. Later it produces pretty dark red berries, which are not edible. The bat flower prefers a semi-shady spot and temperatures above 22 degrees. High humidity is an advantage and waterlogging should be avoided at all costs. In winter, you can either cut back the plant and overwinter the rhizomes in the pot at 5-15° or try to bring the entire plant through at 15-18°.
