Like its red sister, the Carolina Reaper Brown Chilli is considered the hottest chilli in the world. In 2013, this cultivation by Ed Curry was entered in the Guinness Book of Records and thus replaced the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga at the top. In its homeland, 2.2 million Scoville have already been measured, in our latitudes it can still reach around 1.6 million Scoville. For this, however, it needs a very sunny and warm place and has a rather long ripening time of about 120 days. In addition to the almost unreal heat, the Carolina Reaper Brown Chilli also offers a lot of fruity flavour with a chocolaty cherry note. The ripe pods can be used to make fiery hot salsas or, by drying and grinding them, aromatic chilli powder.

Germination and cultivation

To get this variety to germinate, you should offer them an environment with a temperature between 24 and 30°C. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chilli plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable spot where they get at least 6-8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors on days with temperatures below 12 °C in early autumn - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
