The Bolivian Rainbow variety is a real eye-catcher! It grows quite compact and bushy and reaches a height of up to 60 cm. After flowering, when it sprouts lots of very pretty purple flowers, it develops many pods about 2 cm long. In the course of ripening, the small chillies change colour from green to red. The colouring changes first to purple, then yellow and towards the end still orange. As the pods are in different states of ripeness throughout, the effect is really that of a plant rainbow. This particularly beautiful chili plant is therefore very suitable for decoration, especially as it does not grow excessively large and therefore also looks great on a sunny windowsill. The ripe fruits are moderately hot and can be used to flavour food. In contrast to varieties with heat records, there is no danger of making the food inedible for some guests.

Germination and cultivation

To get this variety to germinate, you should offer them an environment with a temperature between 22 and 28 °C. A heated propagator is ideal for this. A heated greenhouse is ideal for this. Whether you pre-germinate the seeds in two layers of kitchen roll or let them grow directly in soil is entirely up to you. When you place the seedlings in pots, you should use a well-fertilised and airy soil and make sure that the water does not accumulate. Chili plants need a lot of sun for their development and certain minimum temperatures for the ripening of the fruits. Therefore, place them in a suitable spot where they get at least 6-8 hours of sun and plant them in pots rather than flower pots. This makes it easier to bring them indoors in early autumn on days with temperatures below 12 °C - so the fruits can still ripen despite the sometimes long ripening period.
